Tiffany Black’s exhibition There is no map opened yesterday at Musee d’Art Moderne in Cordes sur Ciel in 81170 France and continues until 1 November 2026.
Sculptures, films, drawings and paintings come together as an ensemble to make a moving statement on how we travel through life and what we make of it.
Tiffany Black has lived in the pastel region around Albi, France, on and off, for most of her life. Her mother, Jacqueline Black, was also a painter working in the same area. Tiffany has retained her mother’s discarded oil paint dabs and drawn over them. Collaborating with her mother’s colour palettes, Tiffany has created images of two generations looking at this landscape through colour.
A set of charcoal drawings were made on restaurant tablecloths during an artist’s residency on a Greek island.
At one end of the exhibition, an extraordinary boat sculpture is made from produce packing crates and fills the space.
At the opposite end of the gallery, the Sentinel sculpture evokes buoys, oil platforms, lighthouses and being adrift in a vast expanse.
